ACE THE AESTHETIC: GOLF CORE
We sit down to chat to our Head Designer Ashlea Holdsworth who takes us through how our latest capsule collection was created alongside NET-A-PORTER and everything you need to know about the golf-core fashion trend that’s taking over tik tok and will take you all the way from course to clubhouse and beyond.
IS GOLF CORE HERE TO STAY?
Yes. During covid golf as a sport peaked – it is played outside but also is a naturally socially distanced sport with a wonderful social element to it. Once you head to the clubhouse there is the additional community feel which brings people together which I really love. Interest around it following the pandemic hasn’t slowed. In fact, it is gaining more popularity as a sport, especially with women.
For those that are quite active on the course they are looking for ways to add personality and character into their outfitting and we wanted to be able to bring a fun and playful side to our collection for this customer but still adhere to some of the more traditional aspects of the sporting uniform.
Think British racing green and bright whites, plaids and sporty stripes mixed with pique textures and knits.
It can easily be worn functional on the course or post play or for recovery at the club.
There are pieces in this collection that are for everyone regardless if you play the game or not.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR VISION FOR THE COLLECTION?
We had already created so many beautiful pieces for tennis and paddle in our latest collection and had such a great reception to our tennis-core focused pieces in the past, we just couldn’t help ourselves. It was a natural evolution with the added popularity of the sport.
Colour wise we wanted it to go back with the rest of the collection within our May drop, but also to be a stand-alone capsule that anyone could shop from.
We opted for dark emerald green, navy and pink with a burst of fresh whites – the pink adding that fun pop of colour.
We are a fashion brand so although there are functional pieces like the Hotshot Mini Dress (which has built in shorts with pockets including tee holders that can be worn on either the course or the court) the majority of the collection can be worn for golf but also post-play. For example, the knit wrap skirt and Queenwood Honour Knit Dress.
IF YOU WERE TO PICK ONE VERSATILE PIECE FROM THIS COLLECTION TO CENTRE YOUR GOLF WARDROBE AROUND, WHAT WOULD BE IT BE?
Probably the Franca pant. It’s a great straight leg pant with the perfect length.
It’s a beautiful staple that can be worn back with so many different pieces whether it be a fresh white polo and a knit, a rib tank.
It’s perfect to play golf in but also an elevated track pant or soft suiting. This piece is comfortable, chic, classic and versatile.
OFF THE GREEN, WHAT ARE THREE WAYS YOU WOULD WEAR THIS PIECE?
For travel or work. It’s elevated but comfortable and with the Louis Knit it becomes a great plane outfit. With a fresh white tee and vintage denim jacket, it’s so comfortable yet practical I would wear it to work and then dress it up with a heel and a rib tank for after work.
WHAT ARE YOUR FAVOURITE FABRICS / FEATURES FROM THE COLLECTION AND WHY?
Our stretch pieces – bra and midi pant along with the Hotshot Dress are constructed from our Pure Peached Fabric – this fabric is sculpting, matte, soft brushed hand-feel, wicking so will keep you dry and also made from responsible fibres which makes it even better. I love the knit textures in particular the Queenwood Salima skirt and knit vest.
These are made from an organic cotton knit and the construction is an almost waffle texture – a super chic yet fun outfit to wear post play or to dress the golf-core aesthetic without hitting the course.
